If you’ve found your way here while looking for a portrait photographer in Lambertville, NJ, a new professional headshot, family portraits, or simply a photography experience that feels a little different, I’m glad you’re here.
I’m Nicolas Baptista, the photographer behind Nicolas Baptista Photography and BaptistaPhoto.com.
I specialize in portraits, professional headshots, personal branding photography, family photography, and high school senior portraits from my studio in Lambertville, New Jersey.
But before I tell you about what I photograph, it probably makes more sense to tell you a little about why I do it.
Photographer, Dad, and Firefighter
I wear a few hats.
I’m a photographer, a dad to three kids — Rodrigo, Javier, and Sabrina — and I’ve been a professional firefighter since 2012.
Between the firehouse, running a photography business, raising three kids, and everything else life manages to squeeze into the week, things are rarely quiet.
And maybe that’s part of the reason photography matters so much to me.
Life moves fast.
You don’t always notice it happening.
Your kids get a little taller. Your family changes. Careers change. People come into your life. People leave. One year somehow turns into five.
Photography gives us the chance to stop one small piece of that.
Not forever.
Just long enough to appreciate it.
How I Approach Portrait Photography

When I first started photographing people, I was always looking for the little in-between moments.
The expressions that disappear almost as soon as they happen.
The laugh between poses.
The way a parent looks at their child.
The moment someone finally relaxes and stops thinking about the camera.
Over time, I realized that good portrait photography isn’t only about noticing those moments.
Sometimes you have to create the space for them to happen.
That’s become a huge part of how I photograph people today.
I don’t want you spending your entire session wondering where to stand, what to do with your hands, whether you’re smiling correctly, or if you’re doing something wrong.
That’s my job.
I’ll guide you through posing, expression, body position, lighting, and all the little adjustments that make a big difference in a portrait.
You just have to show up.
You Don’t Have to Be “Photogenic”

One of the things I hear constantly is:
“I’m not photogenic.”
Usually followed by:
“I hate having my picture taken.”
You are definitely not alone.
Most of the people I photograph aren’t professional models. They’re regular people who understandably feel a little strange when someone points a camera at them.
That’s why I don’t expect anyone to know how to pose.
I’ll tell you where to stand.
I’ll show you where to put your hands.
I’ll adjust your shoulders.
I’ll help you find the right expression.
And I’ll probably talk to you throughout the entire thing.
Sometimes that means conversation.
Sometimes humor.
Sometimes gentle bribery.
Being a dad has given me plenty of experience in all three.
My sessions are relaxed because I want the person in the photograph to actually look like the person I met when they walked through the door.
A Luxury Portrait Experience Without the Stiffness

I describe what I offer as a luxury portrait experience, but I don’t mean stiff, overly formal, or intimidating.
To me, luxury means personalized.
It means we don’t rush through your session.
It means we talk beforehand about what you want, how you want to be photographed, wardrobe, styling, and what you ultimately want to create.
Depending on the session, your experience may include professional hair and makeup, wardrobe guidance, multiple looks, fully guided posing, professional retouching, and museum-quality artwork.
The goal is to make the entire process easier.
You shouldn’t have to figure everything out yourself.
Portraits for Women, Men, and Families

I photograph a wide range of people at my Lambertville, NJ portrait studio.
Sometimes it’s a woman who wants to do something for herself after years of being the person taking care of everyone else.
Sometimes it’s someone celebrating a birthday or milestone.
Sometimes it’s a couple.
Sometimes it’s three generations of a family together.
Sometimes it’s parents who suddenly realized they haven’t had a professional family portrait since their kids were little.
And sometimes there doesn’t need to be a major reason at all.
Who you are right now is enough.
You don’t need to wait until you lose weight.
You don’t need to wait for the perfect haircut.
You don’t need to wait until life slows down.
Because life generally doesn’t.
Professional Headshots That Actually Look Like You
Along with portrait photography, I photograph a lot of professional headshots in Lambertville, NJ for business owners, executives, entrepreneurs, professionals, and teams throughout New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
A professional headshot has a very different purpose than a family portrait, but the philosophy behind it is similar.
It should still look like you.
Your headshot may be the first impression someone gets from your LinkedIn profile, company website, business card, speaking announcement, or social media page.
It should communicate confidence and professionalism without making you look like someone wearing your clothes.
We’ll work through different expressions, angles, clothing options, and looks until we find something that feels right for you and your profession.
Professional doesn’t have to mean boring.
Family Portraits Without Expecting a Perfect Family
Family sessions are another part of my work that I enjoy because I understand exactly how unpredictable families can be.
I have three kids.
I get it.
Someone is going to be hungry.
Someone suddenly hates the shirt they’ve been wearing all morning.
Someone will decide this is the perfect time to completely stop listening.
That’s okay.
Of course, we’ll create photographs where everyone is looking at the camera.
But I’m also watching for everything happening around those photographs.
The laugh.
The interaction between siblings.
The way your child leans against you.
The expressions that happen when everyone forgets for a second that they’re supposed to be taking pictures.
Those are often the images that end up meaning the most.
Creating Something You Can Actually Hold
We take more photographs than ever.
Most of them never leave our phones.
That’s one reason printed artwork is such an important part of what I offer at Nicolas Baptista Photography.
There is a difference between seeing a photograph on a screen and seeing it framed on your wall.
There’s a difference between scrolling through a phone and opening a portrait album with your children years later.
I want the photographs we create to exist somewhere other than a camera roll.
That might mean a framed portrait.
An album.
A folio box.
Or artwork that becomes part of your home.
Because eventually these photographs may belong to someone other than you.
Your children.
Their children.
Someone who looks at that portrait decades from now and recognizes a piece of themselves in you.
